The Holidays are Here Again.
Once again, we head into a busy holiday season. As the father of a (soon-to-be) four-year-old, I'm really lucky; I am able, vicariously through my young daughter, to see the holidays with fresh eyes -- filled with hope and wonder -- rather than just through the jaded eyes of a longtime retailer. When I'm around her, "Santa Claus" is real again! Snow is a joy, rather than an impediment to driving. Putting up decorations is exciting and new, not a chore.
I'm sure that plenty of you reading this are booking your holiday gigs -- playing Christmas parties, New Year's Eve galas, and the like. Those jobs have likely become old hat, just something you do at this time of year, playing the same [expletive] tunes for the same [expletive] people.
But music is magic. Powerful magic. Music can reinvigorate happy memories, and reminders of childhood. Those tunes that you've banged out hundreds of times can still make people smile, as hearing a childhood favorite can bring back the wonder of a childhood memory. Santa Claus is real again.
Here's hoping that you can rediscover the joy of bringing the holiday spirit to people by playing those same old boring and... wonderfully familiar tunes.
Whatever you celebrate, we wish you the best: Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy HumanLight, Joyful Winter Solstice, Festivus For The Rest Of Us, and Happy Holidays! (We apologize if we missed any.) We truly appreciate you throughout the year, and we enjoy our many conversations on the phone and by email, where we learn from you and we share our knowledge and experience. We hope to have the opportunity to continue to provide you with the musical tools you need, in the coming year... and beyond.

Holiday Gift Ideas
For the Bass Player on your Shopping List
We've got lots of great (and affordable) stuff for the bass players on your gift list! Check out our upright bass-related gift-ables - everything from stocking stuffers, like videos and small accessories... on up to cool instruments like the Kala U-Bass.
We've put together a list of useful and fun items for players of Upright and Electric Basses; Under $25 items include our popular clip-on electronic tuner, a couple of great hats, the clever Turbo-Tune string winder, and our "nation of bass" hot beverage travel mug. We also have videos and book sets, a bass stand that fits virtually any upright bass, a great cleaning/care kit and more - all under $50!
If the bassist on your list has been especially good this year, you could give him or her a super-cool Kala U-Bass or S-U-B Solidbody, awesome small-sized basses with big-sized sound! We also have the handy "Bass Buggie," NS Design NXT Electric Upright Basses, and more...
All of the items mentioned above can be found in the list of product links below, simply click on a link to be taken to the product pages for each item. Except for some of the style-specific videos, all of the products on the list are universal in nature, so they're just as useful for an adult jazz bassist, a young student in an orchestra, or a "bass fiddler" playing bluegrass!
Getting Gifts in Time
We Want to Ensure That You Receive Orders in Time for Holiday Gift-Giving!
We have a great reputation for our quick shipments from our well-stocked warehouse, and we always hustle to make sure your orders get to you as FAST as possible. Almost everything on the site is always in stock for immediate shipping, unless we've designated it as a special order or temporarily unavailable item. If we do unexpectedly run out of what you've ordered, we'll let you know right away.
We ship most orders from our New Jersey (US east coast) location by the US Postal Service, using regular or Priority Mail, which has 1-4 day delivery timeframes to most of the Continental USA. We use UPS Ground for most larger items like stands, bass bags, and other large accessories (normally 1-5 days). USPS Express Mail, UPS Next Day, Second Day, and Three Day services are available at additional cost - but unless we're right up against your deadline, might not be needed. Basically, if you've got at least a week until you need the item(s), you should just order it and let us do our thing - we'll get your order right out the door and avoid waiting to get your approval on expedited costs.
Calendar of Shipping DaysWeekend orders are shipped the following Monday. Note that this means that orders that are placed (online) on the 20th and 21st (Saturday and Sunday) will be shipped on Monday the 22nd -- and may need expedited shipment services to arrive by Christmas Eve.
If you wish, you can specify your specific timeframe during checkout, or give us a call to place your order at 856-292-3194 (before 3pm Eastern Time to make our same-day shipping deadline.)
*UPS will not deliver on Christmas Day, and while they will be delivering Ground shipments on Christmas Eve, we'd strongly recommend not cutting it that close. Next Day Air (which can be expensive!) is your only option to get items ordered after December 19th guaranteed by December 24th.
To be certain your order arrives by Christmas Eve or sooner:
- Check the box during checkout ("Check this box if you need a faster than normal shipping service") and use the text box to...
- Tell us the exact date and time by which the item must arrive. During business hours, expect us to send you an email with a shipping cost quote in response to your request.
- Be available to check your email so you can approve the quote for the extra cost for faster shipping,
- OR give us clear permission "you may charge me up to $xx.xx for faster shipping to deliver by the date I specified."
- OR call us shortly after you place the order during business hours to confirm a shipping quote.
NEW PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT
Traynor SB200H Amplifier Head
We're already big fans of the Traynor Small Block amps - the 10" combo has become a best-seller, due to its light weight, great sound, and reasonable price. It takes an amp with particular character and the right technical specifications to reproduce the acoustic sound of an upright bass. And the Traynor SB110 Combo has the goods.
Now Traynor brings us the new "head only" version of the Small Block (SB) series. If you've already got speakers you like, now you can get the same transparent sound in a head-only version. Like the combo, the head is ultra-compact (7.5 x 8 x 1.75) and lightweight (1.5 lbs). So it's hardly going to break your back. And even though it's made in North America (Canada!), its price isn't going to break the bank, either.
With 200 watts of clean power, Passive and active inputs, four band eq plus an expander (that you should turn off if you're playing upright - see the site for why), a Speakon output along with an XLR D.I.(with ground lift), mute switch, headphone and tuner outputs, you've got all the pro features. And Traynor's got a 2-year no-nonsense, "even if you break it" warranty. So you're in good hands.
Gifts for New Bassists
If someone on your holiday gift list is a budding new bassist, it can be a little tough to get him or her something. Here are a few gift ideas that are bass-specific -- but general enough to be a "safe" purchase.
Some "BASS" branded items, like a ball cap, beanie hat, luggage tag, coffee mug or shoulder bag can be a fun, inexpensive gift that players will appreciate.
- Bass Stand
You've gotta put the bass down sometime. And having a stand for the corner of the music room is a good thing - it keeps the bass out of harm's way. The Hercules Stand and the Ingles SA22 Stand are both great, inexpensive choices for exactly that sort of use.
- Handy Accessories
Our nifty Turbo-Tune String Winder makes re-stringing a bass a lot less stressful and quick; electronic tuners are also very handy. The COM-90 Clip-on Tuner is the best such unit for bass that we've found, and the Metro Tuner is a larger unit that also features a metronome and tone generator.
- Books and Videos
We have a decent collection of books and DVDs; yes, many are instructional - but some are just enjoyable. The Jazz Bass Book can almost be considered a coffee-table volume, with anectdotes, reviews, mini-lessons, and more, all written from a historical perpective. We've got some great performance videos from prolific bassists like Ron Carter and Charles Mingus. (We even put those three items together at a discount, in the "Jazz Appreciation" Bundle) And if instruction is your game, we've got other three-packs - the Classical Bass Studies Bundle, the Jazz Studies Bundle, and the Jazz Immersion Bundle (which is a little less intense for someone who might be interested in jazz but not focusing on it.)
We're Stocking Up Big Time for the Holiday Season!
We planned ahead! We've just recently received MASSIVELY HUGE shipments of all sorts of products; Lenzner gut strings direct from Germany, Bass Stools, Innovation Strings, Bass Stands, Traynor Amps, and much more! Brand new, factory-fresh and ready to go right out the door. Order today by 3pm EST, most orders ship same day!
