Greetings! Just a quick note to say hello, and provide a little (hopefully) helpful and informative bass information to you. Below, we've got some tips on caring for your bass as the weather gets colder (and your heat goes on, driving the humidity down).

We also wanted to let you know about some of the cool new things going on at Gollihur Music. For instance, we now offer next-day shipment of strings for only $20! We've also teamed with PayPal to provide financing for your larger bass purchases. And we'd love to see your funny and interesting photos featuring our "BASS" stickers. We also wanted to let you know about some of our newest products -- some quick descriptions and links are on the left sidebar. And check out the cool new "Acoustic Box Live" in the main section, below; it's perfect for players who've been looking for the perfect mic/pickup "blend box."

In any case, we hope that this short message finds you well, and as always, drop us a line or give us a call if you have any questions about anything bass-related!

Bassically yours,
Mark, Christopher, and Bob

Winter Bass Care

'Tis the season to think about how your bass is affected by humidity, at least in the Northern Hemisphere. It's getting cold outside, so furnaces are getting turned on to take the chill out of the air. Especially if you have forced air heat, this can mean that the environment your bass lives in is probably going to get a lot drier. And particularly if you have a solid-top, carved bass, this can be a major concern.

If you're considering one of those rubber thingies to hang in your bass to keep up the humidity, I have them. They consist of a perforated non-vinyl tube with a sponge material inside, with a disk on the end. You soak it in water, squeeze out the excess, wipe it off, and hang it inside your bass though an f-hole. Natural evaporation transfers the moisture into the inside of the bass. But the question is... do you really need one?

Check out our FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) entry on Humidity to find out - and whether there are other, more efficient ways to protect your bass. Gain a little knowledge and protect your investment.

Join the Bass Nation

We've been giving out our oval "Nation of Bass" oval stickers for over a decade now - there are most certainly many thousands of them in circulation. We occasionally get photos, like the one to the right, showing where our customers have put their "BASS" sticker. (Although we don't really recommend putting them on your bass!)

Have you have put your sticker on your car, your band trailer, your hard case, or somewhere else unusual? Take a moment to snap a quick photo, and email it to bassoval@gollihurmusic.com.

We want to host a fun new gallery on the website soon, and we'd love to feature your photos!

Note: The more unusual the better, but please respect others' property.

Cool Product of the Minute:
Vintage Revolution Acoustic Box Live

The Acoustic Box Live, from Vintage Revolution, is a preamp with a very specific purpose: to blend a professional microphone and a pickup, to specifically amplify the upright bass. With straightforward controls and quality construction, it's pro-level gear with an entry-level learning curve -- while it has the features you really need, it skips the extra stuff you don't.

The mic channel can accept most any pro-grade mic, either dynamic or condenser (phantom power is provided), and the pickup channel has a high five-megOhm input impedance, so piezo pickups have a full-range sound -- no quacky-ness here! Notch filters help reduce feedback, and phase switches provide balanced tone and feedback rejection help.

Built in Italy using high-end components like Neutrik connectors and a built-in toroidal power supply (no wall wart!), it's a road-worthy, pro-level piece of gear that you can count on.

Does Gollihur Music Match Prices?

Well, it doesn't hurt to ask.

Here's the deal: If you've found an item that we sell, selling for less money at another retailer, and that retailer:
  • Is an authorized retailer of the merchandise
  • Has the item you want in stock
  • Has the price openly published on their site (without the need to enter a password or other such nonsense)
...we'll usually match the price (including shipping costs) if at all possible.

So give us a call. Or, since you've dealt with us before, you can email us directly to send your "match request" to us. We can't guarantee that the answer will always be "yes," but we will respond.
